Howard Lathrop has been an architect with the architectural firm of Roche Dinkeloo and Associates in Hamden, Connecticut for 40 years. He moved to Westport 12 years ago and has been involved continuously in community service: first, through the School Building Committee as Vice-Chair of the Bedford School Building Committee and again as Chair of the Saugatuck Elementary School Building Committee. He also served a stint as a soccer team manager.
For the past 4 years he has served on Westport’s Planning and Zoning Commission. He served as Secretary of the Commission for 2 years and helped develop the Plan of Conservation and Development.
As a design professional, he recognizes the complex interactions and trade-offs between growth and preservation. For future generations, he feels it is important to expand the amount of open space for community use, both passive and active. He believes that a vibrant community must have vibrant town center, economic base and a variety of housing choices.
